The Importance of Church Screening Revisited

Feb 10 2011
by @ 1:47 pm. Filed under Articles

In early 2010, I wrote an article here on the Waco Section Royal Rangers blog entitled “The Importance of Church Screening” in which I talked about a case where a, then 29 year-old, Royal Rangers leader had been indicted for production and possession of child pornography. Sentencing in this case was handed down yesterday (February 9, 2011), after Joseph Emil Klug plead guilty to the charges on September 29, 2010. Read the rest of this entry…

2011 Ranger (Pinewood) Derby Postponed

Feb 08 2011
by @ 9:55 pm. Filed under Pinewood Derby

There have been a couple of churches that have called concerning this year’s Ranger (Pinewood) Derby stating that they are behind in getting their boys & girls cars ready for the races because of church being cancelled due to winter weather (and the risk of another Wednesday night being lost due to winter weather). As a result, the Waco Section Royal Rangers Sectional Leadership Team has decided to postpone this year’s Ranger Derby from our original date of February 19, 2011, to the new date of April 9, 2011. Please make a note of this new date, and plan accordingly. The location is still going to be First Assembly of God in Waco. Registration begins at 9:00 AM with the Races beginning at 10:00 AM. The cost for non-chartered churches is $7 for the first car and $4 for each additional car per person. If you are chartered, the cost is $5 for the first car and $3 for each additional car per person. Read the rest of this entry…

2011 Round-Up

Jan 21 2011
by @ 10:34 am. Filed under Round-Up

The Waco Section 2011 Round-Up is quickly approaching on January 28-30, 2011, at the Ortner property in Meridian, TX. The theme for this year’s Round-Up is “As Iron Sharpens Iron.” Many exciting plans are under way, and we will be holding a special memorial service for Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner during the Saturday evening service. During the memorial service, the Waco Section will be dedicating and presenting to Ellrena Ortner, the wife of Jeff Ortner, a memorial cross. Our special guest speaker is Lee “Prospector” Fogleman. The cost for Round-Up is $20 if non-chartered, $15 if you are chartered.

Our Round-Up packet[1] is now available online. Please note: A separate registration form must be completed for each adult (anyone 18 years old or older) who is registering for Round-Up. A pastor’s signature is required on this form. The district Royal Rangers started requiring this at the district level to better protect the boys in our care at our camps, and they have strongly encouraged sections to implement the same policy. This form is the official district 2011 pastor approval form. By filling this form out, at the conclusion of camp we will submit all signed and collected forms to the district and they will honor this form for the rest of 2011, meaning you won’t need to fill out and get the pastor’s signature for any of the remaining district camps for the rest of 2011 including Pow Wow and Winter Camp. Please note: that any leader that doesn’t have this from filled out will not be permitted to stay on the camping premises overnight.

If you have any questions concerning the activities or Round-Up in general, feel free to contact Tom Schlipp by email at tomschlipp@royalrangers.net.

Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner Passed Away

May 01 2010
by @ 1:36 pm. Filed under General

It is with great sadness, but also a joyful heart, that I inform you that Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner passed away a little before noon this morning (May 1, 2010) and went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He passed peacefully in bed with his wife Ellrena by his side. Jeff had been battling cancer for months, and has received his ultimate healing and is now no longer in pain. Jeff loved the Royal Rangers ministry and he loved bringing boys to Pow Wow and other campouts. He and his son even made it up to the campground for Pow Wow just last weekend and spent a good portion of the day Saturday. He was dedicated to this ministry to the end. Makeover Impacts Lives and Community

Apr 16 2010

I know a lot of us know Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner, however there may be some of you that do not. Jeff “Bullmoose” Ortner is the pastor of Cornerstone Assembly of God in Meridian, Texas and has served on the Waco sectional staff for many years, currently in the role of Public Relations and Chaplain. He also serves on our district FCF staff as Historian. Last year he was diagnosed with cancer and in December the doctors said that it was terminal and only gave him three months to live. In March, he and his wife Ellrena were the recipients of the University of Texas – Austin Chi Alpha’s third Supreme Home Makeover. Jeff Ortner has beaten the odds living past the three months the doctors gave him in December. He is still in need of our prayers and miracle from God.

In today’s AG-News newsletter, there was an article about Jeff and Ellrena Ortner and the Supreme Home Makeover project. I am including that article here for you to read and be blessed by. Read the rest of this entry…

Importance of Church Screening

by @ 11:03 pm. Filed under Articles

I received an article today in my email concerning a 29 year old Royal Rangers leader in Granite City, Illinois that has been indicted in a two-count indictment for production and possession of child pornography.  The police said Joseph Emil Klug “put a video camera in a tent, recorded a boy masturbating, edited video clips and stills and sent it out over the Internet.”1 The indictment states that Joseph Klug cut a hole in the front pouch of a green backpack in which he hid a mini video recorder. It is not clear if this occurred on a Royal Rangers or church event trip. Read the rest of this entry…

2009-2010 Chartering

Oct 14 2009
by @ 11:42 pm. Filed under General

CORRECTION: It was pointed out to me that the chartering period officially ends on October 15th and that this post was a day early, but I hope it lit a fire under those that are going to try to get in under the wire to make sure that ya’ll are chartered.

Well, the official chartering period is over (or will be in about half an hour from the time I publish this post), and the Waco section is officially 6 churches down in our chartering numbers currently.  As of 10:21 PM the National Royal Rangers Office showed First Assembly of God in Belton (Outpost 109), Praise Temple Assembly of God (Outpost 377), and Five Hills Assembly of God (Outpost 526) as being chartered.  I know some other churches were working on getting everything together to charter.  Just a reminder that to be eligible for the chartering discount at Winter Camp, your church must be chartered for the 2009-2010 charter year.  Otherwise, you will be charged the non-chartered fee at Winter Camp. More information can be found on the post, titled 2009 National Royal Rangers Prayer Vigil. Please join Royal Rangers and Royal Rangers leaders around the country to pray for the Royal Rangers ministry.
